{"id":5180,"date":"2024-01-31T15:52:09","date_gmt":"2024-01-31T20:52:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.intealth.org\/news\/?p=5180"},"modified":"2024-01-31T15:52:09","modified_gmt":"2024-01-31T20:52:09","slug":"statement-on-invalidation-of-usmle-examination-scores","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intealth.org\/news\/2024\/01\/31\/statement-on-invalidation-of-usmle-examination-scores\/","title":{"rendered":"Statement on Invalidation of USMLE<sup>&reg;<\/sup> Examination Scores"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Intealth\u2122 was recently informed by the United States Medical Licensing Examination<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> (USMLE) program that the USMLE examination scores for a number of test takers have been invalidated based on a pattern of anomalous exam performance associated with Nepal. USMLE has contacted impacted individuals directly about the status of their USMLE exam performance. For more information on the invalidation of these test scores, please see the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmle.org\/usmle-program-statement-notification-invalidated-exam-scores\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USMLE\u2019s Statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>To satisfy the medical science examination requirement for ECFMG<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Certification, applicants must pass Step 1 and Step 2 Clinical Knowledge of USMLE. This requirement is necessary and a core component of ECFMG Certification. Accordingly, the USMLE program\u2019s decision to invalidate these test scores means that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Invalidated test scores <strong>no longer meet<\/strong> the requirements for ECFMG Certification.<\/li>\n<li>ECFMG Certificates issued to those whose test scores have been invalidated are also invalidated and those individuals are <strong>no longer considered to be ECFMG Certified<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Applicants with invalidated test scores who were previously verified to the National Resident Matching Program<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> (NRMP<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>) as meeting the examination requirements for ECFMG Certification will now be verified to the NRMP as <strong>not<\/strong> meeting the examination requirements for ECFMG Certification.<\/li>\n<li>Status Reports on ECFMG Certification previously sent to residency programs, employers, U.S. state medical boards, and\/or other organizations will be resent with the updated information, i.e., that an impacted individual is <strong>not<\/strong> ECFMG Certified and does not meet the examination requirements for ECFMG Certification.<\/li>\n<li>Invalidation of USMLE Step 3 scores does not impact ECFMG Certification.<\/li>\n<li>There may be implications to those who are being sponsored by ECFMG on a J-1 visa.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Intealth understands that the USMLE program\u2019s invalidation of test scores will likely have significant consequences. We are also mindful of the immense responsibility Intealth has to the American public, and the assurances that the ECFMG Certificate provides to the U.S. public health system about the qualifications and competency of international medical graduates.
